Travel Diary--The Royal Hideaway in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

A few months ago, we hopped on a jet plane and travelled down to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico with some of our best friends. We stayed at Barcelo Royal Hideaway Resort.  This was our third time to visit this resort and it was just as beautiful as the first time we visited.

The beach at the resort is wide and resembles powdered sugar white.  They provide chairs with individual covers to protect you from the harsh Mexican sun.

We were so fortunate to have a room right by the pool, looking out at the beautiful coast.  We actually spent most of our time at this pool and it was perfect.

The grounds and buildings were beautiful, clean, and immaculately maintained.  Two of the restaurants, Spices and The Grill, were located right beside the pool and the beach. (There are actually six restaurants.) Perfect for a quick bite while lounging at the pool or for breakfast.

Throughout the resort, there were meandering paths that took you from the bungalows to the other main buildings.

Even some of the local wildlife was friendly. (Several of these guys hung out all day at the pool.)

One of the really unforgettable experiences that we had was dining at the Chef's Table at Las Ventanas.  We enjoyed a six-course meal with accompanying wine and a fabulous dessert. (This was definitely a splurge, but I can not recommend this enough--it was fantastic!)

The resort also hosts tequila tastings, wine tastings, tea time, and lots of pool activities.

We also really enjoyed meeting some new friends--it's crazy how friendly you get after several margaritas by the pool.  (New friends from Minnesota and Canada.)

The Royal Hideaway is definitely one of our favorite resorts.  They have a beautiful beach, great rooms, great food, and really awesome people.  We will definitely visit again.
