Happy Hour-Spicy Oaxaca Old Fashioned

In the spirit of Cinco de Mayo, I decided to share with you one of my new favorite cocktails.  Of course it's made with tequila and it's spicy.  Although, this is definitely one of those sipping kind of cocktails.

I first read about the original version of this cocktail in the Death & Co. craft cocktail book. This book really changed the way I make cocktails, helping me to experiment out of my comfort zone. I've started using more gins, rums, mezcals, and tequilas.  As someone who loves all types if cocktails and how they are crafted, I reallly enjoyed this book and couldn't recommend it enough.  I decided to pair the Roca Patron Anejo with grapefruit instead of orange due to the grapefruit and smoky flavors in the tequila.  It was perfect.  This tequila is definitely not a "margarita" tequila, but is absolutely perfect in an Old Fashioned.
